Cloud Flower White Marble

This is a metamorphic rock (marble) primarily composed of recrystallized calcite. The dramatic grey and black veins are the result of impurities (such as carbon, graphite, or other minerals) that were mobilized and deformed under immense tectonic heat and pressure, flowing through the white calcite matrix before solidifying. Why does it look different from standard white marble? Many common white marbles (like Carrara) have very faint, feathery grey veining. Ink and Wash Marble is selected for its high drama.
