It often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, cream-colored, and even rusty varieties. The red coloration in Red Travertine is typically derived from natural iron compounds (such as iron oxides) present during its formation over geological time. Like all calcium-carbonate-based stones, travertine is sensitive to acids. Its porous nature (if left unfilled) also means it can accumulate dust in its cavities. Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust from natural voids, and wipe the solid surfaces with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
